Qualification: large managed health care and insurance network

Engagement overview

A large health care provider with over 1m managed physical and software assets geographically distributed across the United States sought assistance to define a future state vision and a roadmap for the asset management function based on leading practice.

Value delivered

Assisted an IT Asset Management executive in shaping the vision and scope of the organization, along with a three-year roadmap, including initiatives for the future state.

Developed ITAM placemats, which provided a single frame view of the vision and roadmap to facilitate socialization of the vision and plan with executive leadership and the broader stakeholder community.

Engagement overview

Engaged to perform a software licensing and software asset management (SAM) maturity assessment across the organization to help identify and quantify opportunities to reduce software licensing costs (new licenses and maintenance).

Value delivered

Identified areas of SAM process immaturity within the organization. Provided recommendations for remediation and developed a roadmap(activity plan) for a future state.

Identified a 16% reduction in SAP licensing fees (from an annual maintenance cost of approximately $14m). This resulted in a total savings of $2.2m.

Qualification: a government agency

Engagement overview

In May 2014, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) issued a report (GAO-14-413) entitled: “Federal Software Licenses - Better Management Needed to Achieve Significant Savings Government Wide.” The report analyzed the software license management capabilities of 24 major federal agencies and uncovered that the vast majority of agencies that GAO reviewed, including this agency, did not have adequate policies for managing software licenses

Value delivered

Produced an analysis of the current state and provided recommendations that were leveraged using a SAM framework and maturity model. A four-phase implementation plan was developed, with each phase containing key activities the agency could perform to specifically address the concerns identified in the GAO report.
